How to Build a DIY Workspace

As the old saying goes, a bad workman blames his tools. We don't specialise in tools at G-Rack, but our workbenches and shelving racks can help create the perfect workspace, so there will be no blaming the tool station!

As Spring approaches, all you DIY enthusiasts will be excited at the prospect of getting stuck into some home improvement projects.

The kids' bikes might need tuning up, or you may have a fence to build, you could even be one of the more ambitious people who's considering building some new patio furniture.

What we're trying to say is, your to-do list is about to start piling up, and you need to make sure your workspace is ready. So, before you start, we thought we'd run through a few points to consider.

  • Planning your workspace
  • Finding the right units
  • Building your workstation

Getting started

Let's start with the basics.

First, you need to choose where you'll be setting up your space. There are two main options to consider; the shed, or the garage. One isn't better than the other, it's down to personal preference, and where you feel you can have the most space to work freely.

Think about the jobs you do

Next, you'll need to think about the jobs you do. Are you just fixing things up here and there, or doing some bigger projects that will require some machinery?

It's also worth thinking about storage. How many tools do you own? Will you need to implement a storage system to keep them organised?

Don't worry, we have solutions for all of that, which we'll get into a little later.

Finding the right products for your workspace

G-Rack DIY Station

Now, it's time to look at some products.

Our heavy-duty workbenches are a great place to start. Holding a massive 300kg of load weight per tier, these units are tough enough to take on the trickiest of jobs.

They feature robust metal construction, with 6.8mm thick MDF supported by stainless steel beams for extra durability. The addition of rubber feet adds stability, so you don't need to worry about your unit sliding out of place.

Our garage workbenches hold vices, pillar drills, band saws, sanders, and much more. Whatever job you're working on, these reliable worktops will be with you from start to finish.

 G-Rack Heavy Duty Garage Workbench

It's not all about the worktops. Storage is also key to maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient, workspace.

We have a fantastic range of high-quality garage shelving and racking units that's great for housing equipment and tools storage.

Our range also includes widespan shelving, for when you have more items to store. We also supply reduced space shelving units, for when you're trying to get the most out of limited space.

Our freestanding shelving is fully adjustable, so you can alter shelf height and position should you need to.

DIY jobs often involve a load of nuts and bolts. If you don't keep them organised, you can waste time scrambling about looking for the right screw or bolt. To solve this, we also have plastic storage bins that can be slotted together neatly on your shelves.

If you want to be a little more advanced, you can create a racking system for your workspace. By combining our workbenches, shelving racks and corner shelves, you can build yourself a full workshop.

Building your workstation

All of our shelving has a boltless construction for easy assembly, saving you the hassle of fiddling with nuts and bolts. Take, for instance, our 5 Tier Boltless Shelving Unit of 180 X 90 X 30 cm. With this unit, all you need to do is effortlessly slot the beams into place, secure them with a rubber mallet, and you're ready to get to work.
.

If you're building a shelving system, connecting our units couldn't be easier. We include bay connectors in the box, so you don't need to pay any extra either.
